SHEPHERDESS'S LOVER (THE)
SHEPHERDESS'S LOVER (THE)
A pictorial poster by St. Almaliotis. In the foreground, the leading couple appears in traditional Greek costume. The woman, in a reverse move, attempts to restrain the man from drawing his gun, while they both stare in the same direction. On a second level, a young girl before an open window spins on her loom. At the bottom of the poster, the title of the film, in big blue letters, reads: ΤΗΕ SHEPHERDESS'S LOVER. At top left, the production is recorded: “Olympia Film. Production P. Dadiras, Athens”. At the bottom, the artist’s initials are recorded: an S drawn by a thin paint-brush. On the margin of the poster, the signature “Pehlivanidis Printing” is recorded.
A poster created by St. Almaliotis with sharply realistic features on the portraits of the two leading actors, who are presented on the first level. Transition to the faces is achieved by soft shading from dark to rosy flesh, while big white light strokes are used on the forehead, nose, cheeks and neck. Fine soft colours predominate, while red and yellow add greater intensity to the picture. In contrast, the small picture of the girl spinning at the top of the poster is painted in monochrome blue. Elegant drawing, refined characteristics, fine nose, big eyes and succulent lips comprise an exquisite picture of the girl spinning on her loom. S. Almaliotis, again, puts his personal style in this poster.
